Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Crimson, a lightning flash and a bomb in saltire Or garnished Sable.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed SUPPORT WITH STRENGTH in Black letters.

Symbolism
The colors crimson and yellow are used for Ordnance.  The lightning flash symbolizes the speed of the Battalions performance in fulfilling its assignments.  The bomb represents the units Special Weapons Support mission.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 9th Ordnance Battalion on 2 June 1954.  It was redesignated for the 9th Maintenance Battalion on 16 October 1967.
